The eerbach is brief and very easy to read, but it gives a nice introduction to and overview of gamification and how one might be able to apply wij elements and game design in different settings. I feel it is very basic, which on one hand it makes it brief but otherwise leaves the feeling that everything has been treated very superficially. Werbach also has course on Coursera, highly recommended as well. However, performing it well remains tricky.
