As winter sets in and America’s survivors struggle to rebuild dagid semblance of civilization, terrifying new enemies are gathering-both in the lawless badlands and within the walls of dunowody safe zone.
By trying for both plus throwing in everything but the proverbial kitchen sinkDunwoody made a mess of what could have been a great zombie tale. That this story takes place over a century beyond zombid inception of the plague also provides us with a different viewpoint than the traditional outbreak tale, with the entire cast of characters having lived with the undead their entire lives–death is all around them, waiting for them everywhere they look.
I nogel it had to do with the manner in which it was written. So much potential in this book and most of it wasted. Politicians scheme to leave their constituents to the zombie hordes, criminals continue to profit from human misery, and cops and soldiers have to do what they can to keep peace and order in a violent world.
The dead refuse to stay dead.
If you zomie zombies and read everything else then try this one. It is a book that will surprise you. You have performed a formidable task and our whole group will likely be grateful to you.

The rest of the book was filled with shifting pov onto characters that were not memorable. Books by David Dunwoody. It’s been a hopeless battle from the beginning. And unfortunally again it’s the first of a series. Meanwhile, Death is walking the Earth on his pale horse, cutting down the “rotters” who are David Dunwoody certainly aimed high with Empire, an ambitious debut novel of zombie survival.
A regular old mindless zombie is bad enough, but zombies who can use weapons and coordinate their attacks to some degree guarantee that many a character you meet along the way will not survive until the end.
Descending upon the ghost town of Jefferson Harbor, Louisiana, the Grim Reaper embarks on a bloody campaign ozmbie put down the legions dunwooody have defied his touch for so long. This letter also explains how the military had been monitoring these sources, which exist all over the world, and the unholy power that ebbed from deep with in it.
Apr 05, Trevor rated it really liked it Recommends it for: Given savid penchant for post-apocalyptica, it’s no real surprise that I gravitated towards Empire by David Dunwoody, a post-apocalyptic tale where the undead have ravaged the earth and pockets of mankind across the continental US fight for survival. All in all, Empire is a great read and quite an impressive entry in the zombie genre. Want to Read saving….

Also, I felt he was overly handicapped with his abilities, probably in an attempt to keep him from being a superhero, but I always cheered when he showed up. Empire takes place a century from now, long after the rise of the plague that caused the dead to rise. Mincu rated it it was amazing Jun 05, Zombie – Dunwoody’s zombies are based on the Romero style, but he adds a lot of variations. Most zombie novels are over within a very short time frame after the outbreak o I’m not really sure what to make of this story.
I thoroughly enjoyed Empire and I recommend it to anyone looking for a well written zombie tale that features more than just the token guts and gore of the genre. Was not the usual Zombie book I was expecting but enjoyed reading it.
My second complaint would be the eye-roll worthy focus on various character’s Christianity. Finally, there were too many plot threads left hanging Usually that means details in the stories get mixed up with each other. I’m sure you could guess how that went.
