When learning a game, the book is almost always far superior, so it’s not a waste of time or money. In addition the the extras found in the “Premium” version reprintit also contains the errata, which are available for free from the WotC site linked in starwed’s comment.

I would go off the word “Premium” myself. If you are looking at buying some of these books and getting into the game, do note that almost all of the material from five books: The difference between those two is whether they have extras in the back.
The first link is the Player’s Handbook 2, which adds many rules, feats, and classes into the game. The exact amounts of XP that you need to level up, and the ways of calculating how much XP a given encounter is worth, are also missing.

I’m afraid going to be incredibly pedantic and point out that Unearthed Arcana was to some extent a compilation of material that was already released under the OGL; some of it by companies other than WotC.

I certainly learned from the SRD without any trouble. The second and third are the Player’s Handbook, which has the core basic rules needed to play. And I certainly think a new player to an experienced group should have no trouble learning from the SRD supplemented by his group-mates.
